Welcome to reviews of 11 BPAL scents: Carnal, Hetairae, Dee, Dragon's Heart, Ladon, Lyonesse, The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, Black Annis, Cthuhlu, Darkness, and Mary Shelley.

(The first two I knew I love, the next five were ordered, the last four were frimps.)

Many reviews )

Boilerplate: I smoke, and I have difficulty, as a rank neophyte, with differentiating scents, especially in the floral categories. But I'm learning! XD My process with BPAL is to test and sniff before reading the catalog descriptions so I'm not persuaded by words over smells. Under the cut, sniff reviews, again cross-posted from my journal.

The usual personal caveats: I smoke, and I have difficulty, as a rank neophyte, with differentiating scents, especially in the floral categories. But I'm learning! (I might move this around in the week a few times until I work out when it works for me to post these.)

This post is a free-for-all for people to:

a) post links to perfume-related content they posted elsewhere (on or off DW)
b) talk about anything they want to talk about that isn't big enough for a full post
c) socialize and hang out without worrying about "off topic"
d) or anything else that comes to mind!

Whatcha wearing today? (Me: BPAL's "Brimstone", which I am absolutely perplexed by. I can't decide if it smells amazing or hideous on me.)
musyc: Bobby Singer from Supernatural, animated icon captioned "awesome" (Supernatural: Bobby awesome)

Personal caveats: I smoke, and I have difficulty, as a rank neophyte, with differentiating scents, especially in the floral categories. But I'm learning! XD My process with BPAL is to test and sniff before reading the catalog descriptions so I'm not persuaded by words over smells. Under the cut, my impressions of fifteen BPAL scents, crossposted from my journal.

Finally, I would be very happy for some recommendations! I've tried very little perfume outside of BPAL but I'm open to just about anything. I tend not to like strong florals (except for jasmine), strong leather and tobacco notes, and I think there's something around clove or cumin that I have a problem with. I'm especially interested in herbaceous and woody notes, perhaps something similar to the wet green note in Arsenic.

[xposted from my journal]

Latest round of BPAL arrived yesterday. (Four full-size bottles of "stuff that was awesome" from the last order, plus another two dozen imps we ordered and 15-16 "frimps", aka 'free imps', where 'imp' = 'small tester'.) I promptly went for "variations on a theme" and (over like 15 hours, not all at once) tried a few of the ones containing dragon's blood, which is one of my absolutely favorite notes of all time.

This entry: those + a few stragglers from the last round.

also, my fingers smell like a blend of every other oil we ordered thanks to opening and sniffing all the imps. the forums call this 'imp spit'. )
