Reviews & a recommendation request!
Patch NYC - Serpent
Solid perfume.
Manufacturer's description:
Petit grain, hay absolute and geranium blended together into a scent as vivid and crisp as a lush garden.
Petit grain, the internet tells me, is from the bark and twigs of bitter orange. I don't get anything citrusy out of this -- I get hay, for sure, and a light dry bitter twiggy note, and geranium. Maybe this is just because of the name 'serpent,' but it makes me think of the field trips I used to go on with my class where we would often find little garter snakes in the grass - it's hay rides and unkempt meadow, dry and sunny, but with enough bitterness in there to give it a little bite. I really like this!
TokyoMilk Dark - Arsenic
Hand creme, but also available as eau de parfum.
Manufacturer's description:
Absinthe, vanilla salt, cut greens, crushed fennel
A bitter, green, medicinal smell, like a disreputable apothecary. There's a note of wet greens, of greens that have just started to rot. I love it. I want to smell like this all the time. (It's also really great as a hand creme.)
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab - Croquet
Manufacturer's description:
Pink lime, pink grapefruit, white nectarine, wild rose, sage, woody patchouli, bergamot, and ornery hedgehog musk.
Free imp - I would never have chosen for myself a scent with such a cacophonous barrage of notes! But this is great. The patchouli, sage, and musk give the citrus a little earthiness and keep it from being monotonously sweet citrus. It's a bright-spring-day kind of smell.
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab - The Forest Reverie
Manufacturer's description:
A sunlit ancient forest, dotted with wild roses, grape vine, and queenly lilies, clothed in swirls of opium smoke.
Huh. I thought that I had tried this and liked it, but this go-round all I'm getting is the opium smoke, and it's just murky. My room is not particularly climate-controlled, so I'm not sure if this went off over the summer or that's just how it is.

Finally, I would be very happy for some recommendations! I've tried very little perfume outside of BPAL but I'm open to just about anything. I tend not to like strong florals (except for jasmine), strong leather and tobacco notes, and I think there's something around clove or cumin that I have a problem with. I'm especially interested in herbaceous and woody notes, perhaps something similar to the wet green note in Arsenic.
