First off, I have to say that this community is full of amazingly, awesomely encouraging people--- thanks for egging me on to go ahead and post reviews even if I'm not sure of how to describe things so that other people know what I'm smelling/experiencing, and I will definitely check out the resources for "common language" for perfume description.

That said, the reviews themselves:

Reviews of offerings from Guerlain, BPAL, CB I Hate Perfume, Montale and Conjure Oils.  It didn't occur to me until this morning that I could also link to it here...one day I'll get the hang of community participation.

I was one of the lucky participants in the BPAL prototype circle [profile] synechdocic just ran, and I'm really interested in talking about other people's responses to what they got.

My first two test subjects:

BOBN1 - This one opens with the particular soapy smell that means my skin chemistry is eating one of BPAL's rose notes. It's a vague, pretty pink-ish smell, but very light, and it never quite recovers from the soap barrage. It also disappears within half an hour. When I stick my nose right against my elbow, I get the faintest possible whiff of... is that porridge? o.O

ICD23 - Medicinal and green-smelling. Something cool and menthol-ic, and probably some vetiver, and evergreens. And then a soapy note comes in, which probably means a floral note my skin is breaking into pieces.

Once this one dries, it's very pleasantly evergreen-outdoorsy in a way, but it still smells very tame to me. These aren't wild woods, they're someone's backyard, with the light from the kitchen windows fully visible at all times. Not really for me, but not at all bad, either.

The rest of my haul: PW7, PPV662, and NVPR4, still waiting to be tried. If other people have tried these, or protos I didn't get, I'd love to hear about them!

Hello from a beginner at smelling good!

I posted a review of BPAL's Vice in my journal. I had a question at the end:
This does smell good, but I am bothered by the clash with the name. I smell like a slightly spicy flower, which is not really what I'd call Vice, as such. What would Vice smell like? Liqueur and tobacco and sweat maybe?

This makes me very tempted to try The Ankythera Mechanism tomorrow, for the tobacco note. Does anyone have any recommendations for a BPAL scent that really does smell of vice?
