BPAL sniffing notes
Old Demons of the First Class
Siberian musk, black clove, opoponax, tonka, black pepper, and neroli.
In the imp, this is very peppery and musky, with a sweetness that I can't really place. Maybe that's opoponax? I'm not sure, but I like it.
On my skin, the pepper retreats a bit, and the sweetness gets stronger and more complex, with notes of honey and vanilla, and a touch of bitterness. It smells a little like cocoa that's been sweetened with honey. Oh, yum.
As it dries, it just mellows a little, and the peppery notes come back. It's sweet and spicy and musky and I love it. This goes on the to-buy list.
Against Idleness and Mischief
Pollen-dusted honey, diligent tonka, steadfast chamomile, and goodly hyssop.
In the imp, I don't really get much of anything from this. It's vaguely sweet and flowery, but not very strong at all.
On my skin it's honey. Whoa, that's a lot of honey. Oh, there are the flowey notes again. The chamomile is coming out really strongly. It smells like chamomile tea with too much honey in it. Not liking this a whole lot.
The Black Rider
Black leather, oppoponax, tobacco, and black amber.
In the imp, all I'm getting is opoponax. It's very resinous and green.
Wet on my skin, it's very resinous and green, but as soon as it starts drying the amber is coming out. I'm not really getting any leather from this, sadly. It smells sort of soapy and generic afteshave-y.
This fades really quickly. 3 hours in, and I can only smell it if I get right up against my wrist.
Inferno
cinnamon, bitter almond, and neroli.
In the imp, it's Dr Pepper. Really strong Dr Pepper.
On my skin it immediately goes to holyshit!cinnamon, with very vague notes of neroli.
One hour in and it's still holyshit!cinnamon.
This is finally starting to mellow into something other than just cinnamon. It's a little like cinnamon and almond cookies now. Too much cinnamon.
The Antikythera Mechanism
Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco.
In the imp, this smells like vanilla that's been spilled on old wooden cigar box and left to dry. Goddamn, this is yummy.
It looses a bit of the wood notes on my skin, going all warm and sweet. Oh, this just keeps getting better and better.
And holy crap, this one has staying power. I was still getting whiffs of it 8 hours later. Amaaaaaazing. Right to the top of the to-buy list.
Dee
soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods.
Huh. In the imp, this is very faint and a little astringent. I don't really smell much of anything.
On my skin it's... soap? I can still barely smell it. Weird.
