Apricots!

Hello all. I feel the need to kick this off by getting you all to enable me some ;)

I turn out to really like scents containing apricot. Really a lot. I currently have BPAL's Grand Guignol (nice when I want booze-preserved apricots), Katharina (white musk + apricot, which goes incredibly spiky on me), and their discontinued March Hare (apricots+clove), which I adore in the apricot-heavy versions and am less keen on in clove-heavy incarnations.

I also have Etat Libre d'Orange Noel au balcon, which I am similarly very fond of - especially in the first five minutes, where it is gorgeous apricot.

In general I tend to dislike florals (and absolutely can't do anything with lily or hyacinth or heliotrope in) and be very fond of leathers, vetivers, woods, etc. (... in which my mouth starts watering at the idea of a leather-and-apricot scent, whoops!) Recs gratefully received. :-)

Okay, I'm having another rummage through Les Senteurs and found Serge Lutens Daim Blond: A blend of white leather, Tuscan iris, apricots mixed with a dash of musk and hawthorne. This gentle and refined fragrance is inspired by the white harts of medieval romance, totally irresistible (I am reassured that this is named in the masculine - suggests the florals won't be too floral for me)...

Also In the City of Sin: An explosion of cardamom, pink pepper and bergamot leads into a sumptuous heart of apricot, luscious candied plum and sweet Turkish rose. The voluptuous base is a blend of Atlas and Virginia cedarwood with incense from Indonesia.

Caron Tubereuse: 2004. A sensuous, yearning fragrance blended from the finest Indian tuberose on a soft, powdery base of apricots, vanilla absolute and sandalwood.

ELdO Jasmin et Cigarette, which rydra_wong has already recommended to me; I'm antsy about it because of how badly my lungs have been reacting to smoke in general at the moment, but I'll see if I can't persuade the gf that she wants a sample, heh.

Fleur Nocturne is probably too floral for me: An exceptionally rich but delicate fragrance, the top notes consist of white peach, apricot blossom and mandarin. The wonderful lush heart is a precious blend of jasmine, magnolia and gardenia prolonged with a base of patchouli, amber and vanilla.

I've only tried it once or twice, but IIRC it's a very soft, suede-y leather and apricot. Not notably floral on me at all.

Ooooooh. That sounds like a thing I definitely want, then.

*nods* For me, I want my leathers more tarry and aggressively leathery, whereas this often gets described not just as suede but white or cream-coloured suede. Kid gloves. So it's very delicate, but (on me), not hyper-femme or especially floral.

(Though iris tends not to ping me as "floral" as such anyway -- it's more powdery/rooty.)

Hmmmmm, I'm not sure you could find an apricot+leather scent, but you might be able to layer? If you can get your hands on a sample of De Sade from BPAL (dc'd about two years ago?) I know that one is pure leather, and some other places might have single notes.

Mmm, yes -- but if I do that then I'll have to find a suitable plain-apricot scent, which might be interesting. (Though now I've a yen for apricot+jasmine+leather+vetiver, heh - so probably I do want nice single notes of things for me to MIX MY OWN... >>)

Possibly worth looking into - while I have never bought from Haus of Gloi, they are quite popular on /r/IndieMakeupAndMore, and they do custom blends

I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing you are looking for because it isn't really perfume, but I love the apricot body oil by Eminence.

It's pretty much pure, unadulterated apricot smell. I use it as a massage oil, and IMHO the scent lasts for a very long time without being over-powering.

Ooooh, that's definitely interesting. I will keep an eye out for it and see if I can combine it with other stuff to get the effect(s) I'm after. Thanks!
