Weekly Free-For-All
(I might move this around in the week a few times until I work out when it works for me to post these.)
This post is a free-for-all for people to:
a) post links to perfume-related content they posted elsewhere (on or off DW)
b) talk about anything they want to talk about that isn't big enough for a full post
c) socialize and hang out without worrying about "off topic"
d) or anything else that comes to mind!
Whatcha wearing today? (Me: BPAL's "Brimstone", which I am absolutely perplexed by. I can't decide if it smells amazing or hideous on me.)

This is probably because the aspects of Shalimar that have been so often imitated over the years tend to be the ones that separate it from Jicky and make it more approachable.
Jicky's not exactly approachable. I love it, but it's kind of the perfume version of Fernet Branca.

(I love Fernet Branca. I have a couple of hilarious stories about it, because my bar is ridiculous and one of the biggest regional consumers of it -- I have a Fernet bartending challenge coin that I got at an industry-only cocktail pairing dinner they hosted that was based around Fernet Branca -- but I fucking love it, sharp bits and all. ....I am also the person who acquired the taste for gin on the first taste, so. I like a lot of shit that's not approachable. *grin*)

Perhaps not shockingly, I would also wear one that smelt like gin.

Seriously, I would wear the shit out of a perfume that smelled like Fernet.
(Fernet: I got turned onto it by a bartender who sent a round to our table because the cocktail pairing dinner we were at had been a gustatorially challenging one, ie, there was a shit-ton of fat and spices and the combination was a bit stomach-distressing and because our bartenders. Being me, I tried a sip of it and went, huh, and finished it. Tried it again at a later date and basically fell for it, at that point. ...my love of Fernet later led to hilarity of said same bartender sending a round to my table at a post-filmshoot celebration and our principal actor, on seeing me and my husband take our shots and do them as shots because, oooh hey Fernet, did the same... well, he'd never had Fernet before. His face was a picture.)

I am realizing that perfume has not been a huge part of the lives of the women in my family after looking at your posts and others. My mom always had tons of little free bottles of perfume from estee lauder and clinique gifts with purchase but she only ever really wore clinique Beautiful.
I should get into her hoard this summer when I visit.

I still regret purging a few years ago and getting rid of things I wouldn't or couldn't wear. Ah, well.
