This post is a free-for-all for people to:

a) post links to perfume-related content they posted elsewhere (on or off DW)
b) talk about anything they want to talk about that isn't big enough for a full post

d) or anything else that comes to mind!

Whatcha wearing today? (Me: BPAL's "Brimstone", which I am absolutely perplexed by. I can't decide if it smells amazing or hideous on me.)

It's not so much that patchouli is despised, I think, as that many people have very strong "hippie head shop" associations with it.

Plus it's just a strong earthy smell that, inevitably, some people love and some hate.

I hope you enjoy the essential oils!

If nothing else, I will learn some new smells and drive moths away from my winter woollens.

Patchouli's good for that too, apparently. There's a Serge Lutens scent, Borneo 1834, which was inspired by the idea that patchouli first arrived in Europe wrapped round bales of silks in the cargo holds of ships to protect them from insects on the journey.

True, in my case, but I'm learning that there are different types of patchouli. I tested two oils today, both with patchouli. One was nice and light, perfectly acceptable. The other was OHMYGODPATCHOULI and I had such a visceral "covers the smell of sweat and pot" that I had to wash it off before it could even dry.

Yes! This is me. I thought I hated patchouli because I'd only ever smelled it in the hippie head shop context.

But my husband wears Cannibas Santal by Fresh and uses their patchouli soap and it smells so divine.

I would be perfectly happy to smell like a hippie head shop, at least some of the time.

My oils arrived today!! I'll have to post about them, but not buried at the bottom of a thread here. I asked my cat to help me smell them all (cats like smelling things) and he said vetiver and frankincense were interesting, but apparently he is another patchouli-hater.

Cats are very helpful like that. I was testing BPAL's Brisangamen yesterday and the kitten woke up from a sound sleep to come running over and sniff me.

Ahh, adorableness!

I have heard that cats are easily poisoned by essential oils. I hope that means via ingestion or contact with skin, and not by sitting on the couch with someone who's sniffing them.
