Perfume Posting Challenge

If any of you are like me, you've been thinking about some New Year's Resolutions, things you'd like to do differently or better (or maybe even stop doing!) in 2015.

One of the things I decided to do was commit to making one perfume post a week. I want to do this for a couple reasons: 1) I want to talk to you, my fellow perfume aficionados, more frequently. I've had some great interactions through perfume fandom and met some awesome people it's been fun getting to know over the past eight months. I haven't had a "home" fandom in awhile, and I feel disconnected from fandom at large to a certain degree; I'd like to combat that if I can. 2) I don't write as much as I'd like to anymore, and I really enjoy the creativity of writing up perfume reviews.

I'm posting this bit of navel-gazing here because I was wondering if any of you would like to join me in some sort of perfume posting challenge. It doesn't have to be anything formal (or as frequent as the once a week I've chosen); I'm just wondering if anyone else is interested in starting off the new year with a flurry of perfume posts for January.

Thoughts?

I totally feel you on 1 and 2, and it would be great to do a perfume posting challenge here.....the bpal org website seems a little quieter? since it went down, or maybe that's just me. (I am a total bpal person and pretty much nothing else, due to allergies, but I love reading about other perfumes too.) I would be interested!

Ooh, I like this! I was in fact just working up the brainspace to post here, and, actually, the once-a-week challenge tangentially helps with one of the questions I had for the community! (Namely: I have this backlog of new perfumes to try because REASONS and I'm trying to work up the logistics for doing so; setting myself to try just one new sniffy-thing a week and post about it takes me out of the space of ZOMG SO MUCH PERFUME WHERE DO I START?!?!?! that I was in.)

Hah, the backlog is actually kind of stressing me out--- trying to figure out how to triage/prioritize effectively, trying to figure out ways to try a lot of scents efficiently and write up reviews... just kind of overwhelming; that was one of the things that appealed to me about a post a week: it gave me a framework for saying, okay, I can whittle down the pile one at a time at a measured pace.

And, sadly, yeah, probably too much pressure, see above on how the simple fact of a testing backlog can stress me, lol! :)

Thanks! On reading my previous post, I was like, "LOL@me, really you're stressed about THIS?!", but the thing is I do not like to try new scents during the workweek because of the possibility of allergy on the part of self-or-others (if I find I'm allergic I may not be able to get the testing-skin washed off and treated while I'm at work, if someone else is allergic I may not know about it and may cause them distress all unawares, not to mention that some oils cling to my skin even after washing), so BPAL's generosity with frimps, while nice in the abstract, kind of loads me down when I get behind in testing, especially because I have to look up the frimps to see if they have notes I know are allergens for me or others I know I'll be near. So I only have a couple days a week to try new things, and I don't always want to spend my weekends risking smelling nasty-to-me, since some scents cling to my skin and since washing my skin enough to get some scents off can leave it too sensitive to risk testing a new scent, sometimes for days. (Also it's the season when I'm covered up a lot and I don't want my favorite sweaters/gloves/etc. absorbing scents that I don't like or things I'm allergic to.)

....ahahahah, I am kind of the definition of overthinking-it, aren't I?

Anyway, yeah, I think I can swing once a week though honestly I think I have like six months' worth of tests at that rate, ooops! And I don't know what BPAL's Lupercalia update will bring, either.

In the warmer months I can try two a day, one on each wrist, but right now I'm trying to avoid getting possibly-washing-resistant scents all over gloves and sweaters and such. (Also, my skin allergies mean I have to keep careful track of which is which.)

Mod hat on: I heartily encourage people to make all kinds of posts to this comm, and I will try my best to remember to post the Friday free-for-all more regularly! (Which reminds me...)

I'm up for this too, because I need a reminder to actually test out my huuuuuge backlog of untested stuff - ScentBase tells me I have 209 different scents and have rated 45 of them. Which is actually better than I thought I was doing *g*
