Friday free-for-all
HA. I REMEMBERED THIS WEEK.
This post is a free-for-all for people to:
a) post links to perfume-related content they posted elsewhere (on or off DW)
b) talk about anything they want to talk about that isn't big enough for a full post
c) socialize and hang out without worrying about "off topic"

(Comments also include brief side-by-side comparison of Etat Libre d'Orange Rien and Rien Intense Incense -- end verdict: Intense Incense is probably better, but not so much so that I need to scrape together the obscene amount they're charging for a bottle, even if they're serious about keeping it a limited edition.)

Oooooh. I did some essential oil blending in my misspent youth; it's a lot of fun. I say go for it!

(And no, really, do I just have hideous taste? is there a reason why that combination isn't already a thing?)
(I mean, secretly it is TOTALLY a result of my many failed attempts to find a smell that reminds me of my favorite fictional character right now...)

I dunno, it sounds like it would smell good to me! There's a lot of possible range in perfumes, I'm sure it will take thousands of years before someone makes every single option that might smell good. :)

(Polly Shelby Gray from Peaky Blinders, on the off-chance someone might ask. On the off-chance someone has seen that... well. BPAL Bensiabel [plums + leather] is closeish, but too sour and not incensey enough, and Vero Profumo Onda EDP [Jesus, where do you start?] is also closeish, but I can only describe it as "the wrong color.")

A little research seems to indicate that blackcurrant essential oil is solid at room temp, which might be the problem! It looks expensive but not ludicrous, though.

(I have to try BPAL Medea just because for metatextual reasons it would be amazing if that turned out to be it -- the actress in question just had an apparently life-altering run in Medea at the National Theatre. BPAL is hit and miss, mostly miss, on me though.)

I'm guessing it just never came into fashion, yes. :) There are definite trends in perfumery!

Whatever, then, I can be original. Like Vero Kern and her obsession with passionfruit.

I would totally buy a sample once you got the kinks worked out ;)
(If you don't know by now, I am a horrible enabler.)

My friends all know that they should only come to me when they want to be talked IN to doing something, not talked OUT of it. ;)
(Actually, I will talk people out of things when I think they're a bad idea. But where's the bad in playing around with some perfumes? Maybe check around you to see if anyplace has a course in perfume making?)

Oooh, the one in MA? Go have lunch at Fresh Side for me, I miss their tea rolls SO MUCH.

Downtown Amherst! It used to be off a side street, but they moved a few years back; they're on the main street now, right across from the campus and a block or so down. Next to the bookstore.
I didn't go to Amherst (my ex did) but I spent a loooooooot of time there. I occasionally head back up to eat at all the places I remember fondly (Fresh Side! wings from the Hangar! Viva Fresh Pasta!) and to go to WEBS. :)

I have seen a few reviews, so one assumes the news is out there. And why I do not understand MANY of ELd'O's creative choices, it's hard to argue with "Rien but AWESOMER."
