Friday free-for-all

HA. I REMEMBERED THIS WEEK.

This post is a free-for-all for people to:

a) post links to perfume-related content they posted elsewhere (on or off DW)
b) talk about anything they want to talk about that isn't big enough for a full post
c) socialize and hang out without worrying about "off topic"

I may actually have to take classes in perfume composition, someday, if someone doesn't produce the Smell of my Dreams before then.

(Comments also include brief side-by-side comparison of Etat Libre d'Orange Rien and Rien Intense Incense -- end verdict: Intense Incense is probably better, but not so much so that I need to scrape together the obscene amount they're charging for a bottle, even if they're serious about keeping it a limited edition.)

Oh god you don't understand if I was any good at all I would want to go pro. And there's a money issue right now.

(And no, really, do I just have hideous taste? is there a reason why that combination isn't already a thing?)

(I mean, secretly it is TOTALLY a result of my many failed attempts to find a smell that reminds me of my favorite fictional character right now...)

True enough, true enough. I'm surprised by how many blackcurrant scents there don't seem to be -- I wonder if the raw materials are expensive or difficult to handle or something?

(Polly Shelby Gray from Peaky Blinders, on the off-chance someone might ask. On the off-chance someone has seen that... well. BPAL Bensiabel [plums + leather] is closeish, but too sour and not incensey enough, and Vero Profumo Onda EDP [Jesus, where do you start?] is also closeish, but I can only describe it as "the wrong color.")

Well, that makes sense. But, you know, still -- maybe it's just never really come into fashion?

(I have to try BPAL Medea just because for metatextual reasons it would be amazing if that turned out to be it -- the actress in question just had an apparently life-altering run in Medea at the National Theatre. BPAL is hit and miss, mostly miss, on me though.)

There are. Even niche perfumery, which, I've just bought like seven Etat Libre d'Oranges. Considering their non-Secretions Magnifiques options include Jasmin et Cigarette, Encens et Bubblegum, and Divin'Enfant [leather and marshmallow]...

Whatever, then, I can be original. Like Vero Kern and her obsession with passionfruit.

Yep! (I was going to say "A five-college area" but, like, what, there's more than one?) I think I even know where that is, too.

Yep. I've been by there. (I'n not in school, currently, which confuses the shit out of people -- I'm eyeing the film editing concentration at Hampshire, though, but I haven't figured out how to make that happen.)

(I keep being a bit sad that there isn't really any sensible way for me to tell ex-who-loves-Rien-because-incense that Intense Incense has been released. Oh well, they'll probably work it out for themself sooner or later.)

I have seen a few reviews, so one assumes the news is out there. And why I do not understand MANY of ELd'O's creative choices, it's hard to argue with "Rien but AWESOMER."

Anybody else in the UK? Boots are currently offering two bottles of Library of Fragrance for £25 and I am probably going to give in to the temptation soon.

I tried Tokyo Milk and it's definitely not for me, as a line! Excess actually has a little whiff of garbage, to me - either my sample has turned (I got it decanted at Sephora), or it's a clever little bit of perfume theater that I would also not wear.

I put discerning Iranian dudebro (as described by [personal profile] noldo when she picked up a bottle for me a while back) on the friend whose face I am currently putting my face on, and it worked exactly as well as I wanted it to and I was pleased. :-) And then I got to show them the beautifuly catty one-star reviews in Perfume and all-in-all it was a good date.

I have been delighted to realize that I have several scents that delight me to no end and a stack of imps still to try (of which a couple may delight me to no end, and most will be "oh, that's pleasant"; I've already gotten rid of the "Oh Hell NO!" scents).... but that -- once that's over -- I suspect my scent acquisition will be over for several years (about how long I anticipate it will take to go through the multitudinous bottles and half bottles I have... think I'm up to like 6 or 8). Given that I've just lost my job this realization is very timely; there will be no extra funds for things that smell good.
