Mainstream Perfume sniffing notes
Notes on Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, Dior Homme, Guerlain Jicky, Hermés Terre d'Hermés, Chanel Égoïste, Dior Fahrenheit under the cut.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
ginger, tobacco leaves, anise, coriander, tobacco flower, clove, spices, fruit wood sap, benzoin, vanilla, tonka bean.
I was pretty sure this was going to be a fav, and I was not wrong.
In the vial, this is tobacco and spice, with a hint of vanilla.
On my skin, it opens up like whoa, all hot spice and sweet vanilla. The tobacco and wood scents are well balanced with the sweetness. Oh, god, this is fantastic. A++ would sniff again.
Dior Homme
iris, cardamom, vetiver, lavender, leather
Flowers. Sort of soapy flowers. And lipstick? WTF? This does not scream "homme" to me. No, thanks.
Guerlain Jicky
top: lemon, mandarin, bergamot, rosewood
middle: orris, jasmine, patchouli, rose, vetiver
base: leather, amber, civet, tonka, incense, benzoin
Heh. My first sniff, and all I could think of was mosquito repellant. It's very sharp and citrusy, with a warmth underneath.
On my skin, it warms even more, and I can smell the amber and tonka and something... ok, well, that must be the civet. It's musky and a little funky but I like it. There's a hint of floral to it, as well, but just around the edges.
This is a very light scent on me. I was expecting something heavier. It's refreshing, and makes me think of summer.
Hermés Terre d'Hermés
top: grapefruit, orange
middle gunflint, flint, peppers, pink peppercorn, geranium leaves, patchouli, baits rose
base: atlas cedarwood, vetiver, gum benzoin
Citrus and pepper and cedar in the vial. It's almost too sharp here.
On my skin it mellows from that initial sharpness and smells really resinous and clean, with an earthy note. There's still some of the sharpness there, and a faint sulfur and oil note that reminds of loading my dad's black powder pistol when I was a kid. Fuck, this is gorgeous. It's my favorite of all the samples I've tested so far. Maybe my favorite scent ever.
Chanel Égoïste
Top: sicilian tangerine, brazilian rosewood
Middle: coriander, damask rose
Base: sandalwood, vanilla, ambrette seed
Huh. This smells like mosquito repellant, too. Is that rosewood? I think that's the only note that this and Jicky have in common.
Unlike Jicky, this stays firmly in the 'mosquito repellant' phase and never really leaves.
Dior Fahrenheit
Top: hawthorn, honeysuckle
Middle: sandlewood
Base: lentiscus, benzoin
In the vial this smells like lilac.
On my skin it still smells like lilac. And a sort of woody resin. Meh.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
